About the Dehradun to Haldwani Relocation Corridor

The Dehradun–Haldwani corridor is Uttarakhand's most active intra-state relocation route — connecting two of the state's most important cities across the Garhwal-Kumaon divisional boundary. Haldwani — known as the Gateway to Kumaon — is the largest city in the Kumaon division, serving as the commercial, educational, and administrative hub for the entire Nainital district and the surrounding Kumaon region.

Route Overview:
The Dehradun to Haldwani journey covers approximately 290–310 kilometres via the primary route through Haridwar, Roorkee, Kashipur, and Rudrapur — following NH-72A and NH-734 through the Uttarakhand Terai belt. An alternative scenic route via Kotdwar and Ramnagar is also available depending on specific requirements.

Key drivers of Dehradun to Haldwani relocation demand:

• Uttarakhand state government transfers — state employees, teachers, forest department staff, irrigation department workers, and PWD employees on divisional transfers between Garhwal and Kumaon
• Education department transfers — teachers, lecturers, and education officers transferred between Garhwal and Kumaon schools and colleges
• Healthcare sector moves — doctors, nurses, and medical staff transferred between government hospitals in the two divisions
• Forest department transfers — IFS officers and forest range staff frequently transferred between Garhwal and Kumaon forest divisions
• Banking sector — SBI, PNB, BOB, Nainital Bank, and all nationalised bank branch staff transfers
• SIDCUL Rudrapur industrial belt — professionals and workers relocating between Dehradun and the SIDCUL industrial area near Haldwani
• Kumaon University faculty — professors and academic staff joining Kumaon University and affiliated colleges
• Retirement relocations — government retirees from Dehradun moving to Haldwani as their hometown
• Real estate investment — Dehradun families purchasing property in Haldwani's growing residential zones
• Private sector professionals — business expansion and career moves between the two cities
